Money Management Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 3000 words

Money Management - Essay Example Investing with exchange traded funds ETFs is an easy way to ensure diversification in any portfolio involving stock, bonds and commodities without having to invest in the individual shares, bonds and commodities themselves. They enable investors to access sectors that would not be available to individual investors (Morningstar 2014b). This takes some of the hassle out of investing. I am very adventurous and I tend to have a liking for the sea. Therefore, my aim is to own a yacht within the next seven (7) years. In order to achieve this specific goal I will be making some medium to long term investments so that I can make a substantial deposit on a new yacht in five (5) to seven (7) years time. The yacht is expected to cost in the range of  £300,000 to  £500,000 by the time I get to the point where I am able to make a substantial down payment. My risk tolerance is medium and so I am willing to take a moderate level of risk in order to achieve a favourable return on my investment. Costa (2011) indicates that the returns that I would achieve are proportional to the risk taken and so I expect moderate returns. My risk profile is consistent with a balanced profile. A balanced allocation has between 0% and 25% cash; 40% to 70% bonds; and 30% to 60% stocks (Costa 2011). This portfolio is characterised by limited risk; however, it can still obtain good returns because of the proportion of stocks that it contains. It is also consistent with the time horizon that I have in mind, which is five to seven years. I have a total of  £50,000 to invest and this will be invested in accordance with the guidelines provided in relation to a balanced risk profile (See Costa 2011). However, I would also like to include a commodity related ETF involving physical gold which is one of the best ways of maintaining asset value. The majority of my investment will take place through the use of exchange traded funds (ETFs). An ETF is an investment

Teacher-Centered or Student-Centered Pedagogy Research Paper

Teacher-Centered or Student-Centered Pedagogy - Research Paper Example Educational institutions, therefore, are tasked with putting the priorities of the student first especially in the provision of learning materials and classrooms as opposed to according teachers the necessary teaching materials (Weimer 78). Similarly, while student-centered pedagogy is critical in infusing collaborating skills during learning, under a teacher-pedagogy this is absent. This implies that teacher-pedagogy stifles the student’s innate talents and socialization skills because it isolates the learner into doing things on his own. The teacher approach is equally deemed retrogressive because it suppresses the independence that is integral in harnessing creative and critical thinking processes for the student. By learning on their own, students find an opportunity to develop the curiosity of excavating other forms of relevant knowledge in their respective areas of study. The method as opposed to teacher-approach is fundamental because it encourages group work. It, thus, allows communication across learners of divergent capacities and how their immediate collaboration with the teacher can post a positive result for long-term purposes. However, while teacher-centered pedagogy ensures that the learner is constantly under supervision to answer the fundamental questions troubling the learner, it still lacks student-friendly approach. Contrastingly, student-pedagogy approach while it recognizes the need for monitoring, it is sensitive on feedback to identify the areas that require urgent correction.

My Leadership experiences Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words

My Leadership experiences - Essay Example As a student in a graduate school, I have maintained my position as a group leader. As a result, I have learnt to appreciate and deal with individuals who have different cultural backgrounds and ethnicity. There were also times when conflicts of interests are present within the group that I handle. By establishing an open communication line with the team members, I was able to successfully resolve the misunderstandings and arguments within the group. In the process of calming down the increasing tension, I have taught my group mates the importance of Tai Chi as a relaxation technique wherein the group members have decided to individually write down their frustrations, anger and discouragement in a piece of paper and place them in the ‘garbage basket.’ As a result, I was able to successfully reduce the negative pressure that exists among the team members. In general, the practice of a weak leadership is likely to contribute to the organizational failure and inefficient operations within the Navy. In line with the inefficiency in the Navy’s operational system, there is a higher chance of having a decreased working attitude and morale of the leaders as well as his or her subordinates. In the end, it becomes more difficult to create and maintain a healthy and peaceful working environment for the team members. Based on my previous leadership experiences when implementing an important organizational change, ‘resistance to change’ among the team members is one of the most common loop-hole or bottleneck that could impede the planning of developmental stage in the Navy. Basically, the three major factors that could promote resistance to change include: (1) the fact that people may feel that they have no control over the sudden changes; (2) the workers may see change as a threat to their current positions of

I was made to start off with sorting out bank reconciliation in the first few weeks. I worked through the organization’s general ledger accounts that contained records of their cash and check transactions. Likewise, I worked through bank statements to reconcile and counter check that the cash and check transactions during the perio d under study to perfectly reconcile with the balances shown in both the general ledger and the bank statements. It was initially a difficult task given the details that one needs to check and countercheck these balances (bank versus book). Likewise, adjustments had to be made in terms of deposits in transit, any outstanding checks issued but not yet recorded by the bank, and the occurrence of some bank errors (as it normally happens). In addition, I had to adjust the balance in the company’s books in terms of the need to deduct bank service charges, NSF check fees and fees for the issuance of checks.
